MAZATLÁN, Sinaloa — In a series of coordinated tactical interventions executed across northwestern Mexico, federal security forces successfully detained two individuals and seized a substantial arsenal alongside illicit narcotics in the municipalities of Mazatlán and Escuinapa, Sinaloa. The joint actions involved active deployment from the Mexican Army, the Secretariat of Security and Protection of Citizens, and the Attorney General's Office.
According to official reports released by the Security Cabinet, the operations unfolded across three distinct strategic points in the region, aimed at curbing illicit activities and disrupting local criminal networks operating along critical highway corridors and rural zones.
The military and law enforcement personnel secured the following items during the operations:
- Two vehicles, including one equipped with factory-grade armor plating.
- Three long firearms (rifles).
- Ten ammunition magazines and 171 live cartridges.
- Thirty-eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
- Twenty-six kilograms of methamphetamine.
- One mobile communication device and personal luggage used for transport.
The initial action took place during routine security patrols conducted by Mexican Army personnel spanning rural routes between Escuinapa and Mazatlán. Military units intercepted two vehicles, one of which featured heavy factory armoring designed for high-risk movement. Upon searching the transport units, troops discovered three magazines alongside a bag containing 38 improvised explosive devices, highlighting the persistent threat of custom weaponry in the sector.
A second targeted intervention was carried out in the community of El Zapote, situated within the municipality of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. During this raid, ground troops surrounded a location, resulting in the apprehension of one suspect. Forces confiscated three long-barrel firearms, seven magazines loaded with 171 rounds of ammunition, and another vehicle utilized by the suspect.
Simultaneously, specialized investigative units from the Secretariat of Security and Protection of Citizens and the Attorney General's Office set up an inspection detail along the strategic Mazatlán – Tepic federal highway. Their investigation led to the arrest of a second individual found in possession of a suitcase holding 26 kilograms of methamphetamine and a mobile phone containing tactical data.
"Inter-agency coordination remains pivotal in neutralizing regional threats, intercepting dangerous explosive materials, and curtailing the distribution of synthetic drugs along national transit corridors," stated security analysts reviewing the recent tactical outcomes in southern Sinaloa.
Both detainees, along with the seized narcotics, high-caliber weaponry, explosive devices, and vehicles, were immediately transferred to the custody of the appropriate federal prosecutor's office to initiate formal legal proceedings and further investigation.
