FATAL TRAIN DERAILMENT IN PAKISTAN LEAVES AT LEAST SIX DEAD AND 30 INJURED NEAR MULTAN

A severe railway accident occurred early Tuesday morning in Pakistan when the Rehman Baba Express derailed near the Sher Shah Bridge, located southwest of Multan. The passenger train was en route from Karachi to Peshawar when the incident took place at approximately 5:15 a.m. local time, affecting all 14 coaches of the convoy.

According to local authorities and emergency services, at least six passengers lost their lives and 30 others sustained injuries as a result of the derailment. Emergency teams immediately deployed to the site to evacuate trapped passengers from the damaged carriages. Rescuers transported the injured individuals to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for urgent medical treatment, while search operations continued across the damaged sections.

Emergency teams confirmed that rescue crews successfully cleared 13 of the train coaches, while specialized personnel continued operations in the remaining carriage to ensure all occupants were safely recovered.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued official instructions to relevant agencies to accelerate emergency response efforts and ensure that all injured victims receive immediate and comprehensive medical care. Authorities indicated that the health condition of several injured passengers remains under close observation.

While official investigations into the cause of the derailment remain ongoing, a passenger reported that maintenance work involving nuts and bolts on coach number nine had been conducted near Rohri prior to the crash. However, railway officials have not independently verified this statement or linked it directly to the cause of the derailment.

The incident has renewed public attention regarding railway infrastructure safety and maintenance standards across the national network, as authorities continue gathering evidence at the site to determine the technical factors that led to the accident.
