CULIACÁN, Sinaloa, Mexico. — Federal authorities have reported a significant operation in northwestern Mexico. The Head of the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed the arrest of four individuals following a direct armed attack against federal officers on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred on the Mexico 15 Federal Highway, near the community of Jesús María, located in the northern sector of the municipality of Culiacán, Sinaloa.

According to official declarations provided by the federal official, the suspects are linked to motor vehicle theft operations and have been categorized by law enforcement as primary generators of violence operating within the capital municipality and adjacent rural areas. The confrontation initiated while federal security forces were conducting standard routine inspections and surveillance duties along the Los Mochis-Culiacán highway corridor.

During these security protocols, armed civilians traveling inside a pickup truck opened fire against the officers. Federal agents responded to the gunfire in accordance with standard defense and engagement procedures, successfully securing the apprehension of four suspects. Official sources confirmed that no security personnel were injured during the engagement.

Following the tactical response, law enforcement units seized various items at the scene, including:

  • Two long firearms and one handgun
  • 30 ammunition magazines
  • 502 live rounds of ammunition
  • Five ballistic vests and two tactical chest rigs
  • Multiple homemade tire-deflating metallic devices (ponchallantas)

In addition to the weaponry and tactical gear, authorities confiscated a vehicle bearing Texas license plates, which was verified to have an active theft report registered in the United States. The Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana emphasized that these coordinated actions remain part of targeted regional operations designed to apprehend high-profile offenders and reinforce public safety throughout the state of Sinaloa.

"These actions form part of the ongoing strategic operations implemented to neutralize violent actors and restore stability across Sinaloa," federal authorities stated in their communication.
