A tragic incident occurred at the Adventure Park (14 Mile, Sogeri Road) in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, when a senior animal keeper was fatally injured by a saltwater crocodile. The attack happened on the afternoon of Saturday, September 5, 2026, during an unscheduled feeding demonstration within the reptile enclosure.
According to eyewitness accounts and official statements, the victim, an experienced handler originally from the Western Islands who had worked at the park for two years, entered the fenced area carrying a chicken to feed the reptile. Unexpectedly, the crocodile ambushed the keeper, snapping its jaws around his legs and dragging him toward the enclosure pond. Despite clinging desperately to the edge while eyewitness Gibson John and others attempted a rescue using an iron bar, bystanders were unable to free him.
"The crocodile held onto his legs for over an hour before emergency responders could safely intervene," reported local witnesses at the scene.
