ELOTA, Sinaloa, Mexico — State security forces reported an armed confrontation in the rural community of Emiliano Zapata, located within the municipality of Elota in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. The incident concluded with the arrest of two suspects, one of whom sustained injuries during the exchange, and the confiscation of various high-caliber weapons, tactical equipment, and stolen vehicles.
According to the official report issued by the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Estado de Sinaloa, members of the Special Operations Group of Sinaloa (GOES) were carrying out routine preventive patrols in the area when they spotted suspicious vehicles transporting armed individuals.
Upon noticing the presence of the law enforcement units, the suspects attempted to flee the scene and opened fire on the state officers. The security personnel responded to the aggression in self-defense, securing the perimeter once the situation was neutralized. One of the civilian combatants was injured in the crossfire and promptly received medical assistance.
During the subsequent inspection of the area and the vehicles, authorities recovered an arsenal and logistics supplies. The official inventory of seized items includes:
- One 7.62x39 mm Sporter rifle
- One 9x19 mm Glock pistol
- One .38 Super caliber pistol
- Eight ammunition magazines
- 447 rounds of 7.62x39 mm ammunition
- Nine rounds of .38 caliber ammunition
- 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition
- One tactical vest and two ballistic plates
Additionally, law enforcement verified that two SUVs—a Ford Ranger and a Mazda CX-50—located at the site carried active reports of being stolen.
The two detainees, alongside the recovered weaponry, ammunition, tactical gear, and vehicles, were placed under the custody of the competent federal and state investigative authorities to determine their legal situation and deepen ongoing inquiries into regional security threats.
